"You have to stay still, you have to stay in one place. You have to come to the studio every day. It seems as if nothing is happening at all, but that to me is actually how you produce things". Stephen Benwell

Stephen Benwell: A still life documentary

SATURDAY, 25 MAY 2019, 2-4pm

Niagara Galleries is pleased to host the debut screening of Creative cowboy films' new documentary Stephen Benwell: A still life, the first of two films that document Stephen's life as an artist-potter.

Join us at Niagara Galleries, with the artist Stephen Benwell and the filmmakers Andrea & Peter Hylands this Saturday, 25 May from 2-4pm for this very special event.

Stephen Benwell discusses new media and new ways of communicating art in Stephen Benwell: A still life (13 minutes), as well as the ideas and philosophies that have made him one of the most significant artists working with ceramics today.

"I have known Stephen for many years so we have followed the development of his art since the early days. In 2009 Creative Cowboy Films completed the documentary Gwyn Hanssen Pigott a potters film, which in 2010 won the award for the best contemporary art film in Montpellier, France for that year. Just like our long friendship with Gwyn, we have wanted to develop a project with Stephen for many years. The chance came in 2019. In A still life we commence work with Stephen as he begins the move to a new studio working space and a set of new ideas".
